Carl-Evert Jonsson was one of the founders of EURAPS. He was an active member of the Association till his retirement in 1998. As a senior member he was still connected to EURAPS till 2006.
Carl-Evert was born and raised in Umeå, Sweden, studied medicine (1957-1964) at the University of Uppsala, obtained his PhD in 1972 and finally became an associate professor in experimental medicine and a specialist in plastic surgery. Later he moved to Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm where he became an associate professor in plastic surgery in 1975 with special interest in burn care.
He introduced excision of burns and skin grafting in Sweden after he saw this technique used by the Slovenian plastic surgeon Zora Janzekovic. Carl-Evert was in 1983 one of the founding members of the Swedish Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. In Karolinska he performed in 1988 the first surgery with cultured skin cells in the treatment of burns. Thanks to him a burn register was established in 1993 in which the percentage of burn, the length of hospital stay, pain, infections and antibiotic treatment of every burn patient was recorded. At that time unique in the world. He was known for involving the nurses of the burn department in research and the study of scientific literature. Due to the collaboration with the rehabilitation center in Norrbacka he was able to obtain government funding especially for the rehabilitation of burn patients.
In his private life he enjoyed painting and photography. After retirement he devoted himself to his art, exploring different techniques like the use of Japanese paper for digital printing of photographs. Over the years his paintings were presented at seven solo exhibitions.
Carl-Evert Jonsson passed away at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife Kerstin and children Kristina, Henrik and Anna with their families.
